The Invisible World

The Invisible World is my submission for the 2022 ISTD Student design competition. My entry was awarded Membership with Merit to the ISTD, and was commended in the printed book category of the 2022 IDI awards.

My book examines Robert Hooke’s Micrographia [1665], the book that first revealed the invisible realm of the microscopic to a mass audience. The publication also examines how humans today engage and interact with the modern world, both positively and negatively, spanning biomemetic architecture and material design, to oceanic microplastic pollution.

To typographically represent the invisible, I chose to create patterns reminiscent of what is seen under the microscope by isolating the forms and counter-forms of the typeface – the invisible shapes and structures underlying typography.
